:dateline:Dr. Santokh Singh, the chief founder of All India Sikh Students Federation, �passed away in Bhopal on May 18. He was 96 years old.
Dr. Santokh Singh was studying in Lahore Medical College when he first thought of constituting the All India Sikh Students Federation. In 1944, he formed the AISSF along with his team members Dr. Jaswant Singh Neki, Ex-MLA Saroop Singh, Bhai Harbans Lal, Dr. Shamsher Singh (Former Director of World Bank), former SGPC Secretary Bhan Singh, Amar Singh Ambalvi etc.
It is noteworthy here that the AISSF spearheaded the Sikh community for a long time. Even the prominent Sikh leaders like Master Tara Sigh and Giani Kartar Singh, used to take advice of the AISSF leaders in every complicated situation.
Dr. Santokh Singh was an eye specialist and he also served as a Director of Medical Education in Madhya Pradesh. He had resigned from this post in protest of the 1984 Sikh genocide and had led a massive protest march in Bhopal.
He also had a major role in the formation of Central Singh Sabha of Madhya Pradesh.
Condoling the death of Dr. Santokh Singh, former Indian parliamentarian Tarlochan Singh has said that such personalities rarely take birth on this earth.
