ORISSA FANI CYCLONE: IIT Students and Sikh Organizations Emerge Like Messiah for Victims

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The IIT students of Orissa have emerged like messiahs for the victims of Fani cyclone who lost their electronic households and are helpless to live in darkness. These IIT students are repairing the damaged fans, tube lights, fridges, TVs and other electronic appliances free of cost by going door to door.

Similarly, several Sikh organizations and other NGOs are also helping the victims by offering them food through “langar”.

It is noteworthy here that the disastrous cyclone named Fani has left the entire state in complete darkness since May 3. The power supply is not even full in Bhuvneshwar since May 3.

The biggest challenge in front of the administration is to ensure the power supply in the state because the entire electricity infrastructure has stagnated after this cyclone which hit the state at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

A large number of skilled electricity workers have been called from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to repair the damage of electricity infrastructure. The volunteers of United Sikhs are arranging one time food for these skilled workers.

It is pertinent to note here that 25 volunteers of United Sikhs had arrived in Orissa on May 3 to help the Fani victims while leaving behind their businesses and jobs. The United Sikhs is active in 13 countries including India, Australia, America, Canada etc. from the last 20 years.
