182nd Martyrdom Anniversary of General Hari Singh Nalwa Observed in Qila Jamraud

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—For the first time in history, the 182nd martyrdom anniversary of great Sikh general Hari Singh Nalwa was observed in Qila Jamraud of Peshawar on April 30. A special religious program was held on the terrace built in front of General Hari Singh Nalwa’s tomb in which Raag Jathas of Bhai Joginder Singh, Bhai Harwinder Singh, Bhai Jasbir Singh and Bhai Surinder Singh addressed the religious discourse.

Sharing the development with media, Baba Gurpal Singh informed that the Sikh attendees were acquainted with historic artifacts of the fort by the military cops.

It is noteworthy here that General Hari Singh Nalwa had attained martyrdom in Qila Jamraud of Peshawar on April 30, 1837. His mortal remains were consigned to flames in this historic fort by his foster son Maha Singh Meerpuria amid presence of prominent Sikh personalities of that era. Today, a tomb exists at the place where General Hari Singh Nalwa’s funeral was performed.

Similarly, a religious program was also held at Gurdwara Diwan Hall Manji Sahib by the SGPC to commemorate the 182nd martyrdom anniversary of General Hari Singh Nalwa. Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Hazoori Raagi Jatha of Bhai Satwinder Singh performed Kirtan and Bhai Prem Singh performed “Ardas” on this occasion. 

Renowned Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Gurpreet Singh Bhangu addressed the bravery tales of General Hari Singh Nalwa to the program attendees.
