SGPC Constitutes Heritage Committee to “Preserve” Historic Buildings

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—In an attempt to calm down the outrage among Sikh masses, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has constituted a Heritage Committee to “preserve” the heritage memorials, historic buildings, articles and trees related to the Sikh history. The SGPC’s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh has shared this development with Sikh24 through a press release.

Dr. Roop Singh has said that this Heritage Committee has been constituted to control the demolition of Sikh heritage. “It will be mandatory to get the nod of this committee for destroying any committee,” he added.

Members of this Heritage committee are as follows:

  1. SGPC member Rajinder Singh Mehta
  2. SGPC member Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka
  3. Raval Singh Architect (GNDU, Amritsar)
  4. Karamjit Singh Chahal (GNDU, Amritsar)
  5. Sulakhan Singh (GNDU, Amritsar)
  6. Narinderpal Singh (PAU, Ludhiana)
  7. Sajjan Singh (Incharge, Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad)
  8. Kulbir Singh Shergill
  9. SGPC Secretary (Buildings)
  10. SGPC’s Xeon for Buildings Department

SGPC’s vice secretary has been tasked to coordinate this 10 member heritage committee.

It is pertinent to note here that the SGPC is under fire after the demolition of historic Darshani Deodi of Gurdwara Sri Tarn Taran Sahib on March 30. Although, the SGPC and the Kaar Sewa sect headed by Baba Jagtar Singh kept their safe sides very cleverly to evade any legal action, but still they are unable to get rid of Sikh wrath.

Sikh leader S. Karam Singh Bhoian has been sitting on strike since April 1 seeking action against the Kaar Sewa sect head Baba Jagtar Singh and the SGPC officials. His peaceful sit-in-strike has entered into sixth day today.
