Sikh Activist Goes on Indefinite Protest at Tarn Taran Sahib; SGPC’s Role Under Fire Despite Manager’s Suspension

:dateline: SGPC has clarified that it had revoked the resolution (# 550) which initially permitted the Kar Seva Jatha to perform renovations at Tarn Sahib Sahib. Baba Jagtar Singh Tenders Apology; SGPC Had Officially Handed Over Kar Seva of the Shrine

April 1:After getting evicted from the historic Sikh shrine of Tarn Taran Sahib for demolishing the dome of its Darshani Deodi with the help of around 400 armed goons, the Kar Seva sect leader Baba Jagtar Singh today released an apology letter to get rid of the sharp outrage erupted against him among the Sikh community.

In the statement, Baba Jagtar Singh mentions that the SGPC had tasked his jatha for kar seva. “It is my plea to the worldwide Sikh Sangat that the kar seva of the Darshani Deori was given to us by the SGPC on July 12, 2018, as per resolution # 550.”

In future, we will never commence Kar Seva of any traditional building without taking all the Sikh sects and Sikh masses into confidence, reads the apology letter.

It may be recalled here that the Kar Seva sect headed by Baba Jagtar Singh had started demolishing more than two centuries old main entrance gate of Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran with the help around 400 armed goons during the intervening night of March 30 and 31. The armed goons were instructed to demolish the whole Darshani Deodi within few hours, but the local Police had stopped them from demolition work on the complaint of Sikh sangat.

SGPC President’s Role Under Question

Role of the SGPC President Gobind Singh Longowal was always being questioned; however, now with the letter issued by Baba Jagtar Singh, it leaves no doubt that the SGPC knew of the task that was to be performed at Tarn Taran Sahib. Sikh organizations have asked the SGPC President to resign after the shameful incident.
