:dateline:Interacting with the media at Chandigarh after convening a meeting of executive members on March 8, the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal stated that there should be at least one solo grand joint function on behalf of SGPC, the Centre and the Punjab government in commemoration of the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He said that all the stakeholders should join hands for a grand celebration to follow the message of unity professed by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Longowal expressed rue over the separate parallel stages to be set up by the different authorities at Sultanpur Lodhi in November this year.�
In this meeting, the SGPC decided to offer scholarships to the baptized students studying in the SGPC run educational institutions. The SGPC has maintained a condition that the parents of beneficiary students should also be baptized. Detail of the scholarship amount is as follows:
- Rupees 3500/- annually to the students of 6th to 10th classes
- Rupees 5000/- annually to the students of 11th and 12th students
- Rupees 8000/- annually to the students pursuing Bachelor degrees
- Rupees 10000/- annually to the students pursuing Post-graduate degrees
Beside it, the SGPC also resolved to announce special rewards for the baptized Sikh players.
In another decision, consent was given for the unification of all the three presses at a single place and establish a central store for storing the papers and other material used in these presses.
