Giani Iqbal Singh Succeeds in Retaining Headship of Takht Sri Patna Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Giani Iqbal Singh, a controversial polygamous Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, reportedly revoked his resignation a few hours after submitting it on March 3. Sources have informed that he succeeded in making the Management Committee of Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib (Patna) bow before him with the help of his supporters in the form of “Sikh Sangat”.

Talking to the media, Giani Iqbal Singh narrated the revocation of his resignation by saying that he had handed over his resignation and the keys of Takht Sahib to the board’s general secretary Mahinder Pal Singh Dhillon but the “sangat” gathered there and insisted that he should stay. “The general secretary handed me back the keys and asked me to continue serving as Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib,” he added.

Meanwhile, the SGPC appointed acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has said that the decision of removing or retaining Giani Iqbal Singh comes under the jurisdiction of Takht Sri Patna Sahib Management Board but the investigation into allegations against him will continue and the next action will be taken against him on the basis of this report.
