Punjab Government Suspends IG Paramraj Umranangal

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—IG Paramraj Umranangal, who was arrested by the Special Investigation Team on February 18, was reportedly suspended from Police services on February 27. An order in this concern was released by the Additional Chief Secretary of Punjab after he observed violation of “All-India Services (Discipline and Appeals) Rules” in Umranangal’s case.

It is pertinent to note here that the rule 3(2) of the “All-India Services (Discipline and Appeals) Rules” says that an official in custody for more than 48 hours is deemed suspended.

It may be recalled here that the SIT head IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh had told the media that IG Paramraj Umranangal had instigated the situation where the Sikhs were staging protests.  He had said that Umranangal was posted in Ludhiana but he went to Faridkot, which was not in his jurisdiction.

“During investigation, it came to light that he was commanding everything and force in strength had gone there (the spot where protesters were sitting) from Ludhiana. He was managing everything” he had said.
