Kotkapura Firing: Akali MLA Mantar Singh Brar Questioned by SIT

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Mantar Singh Brar, the former Akali MLA from Kotkapura, was reportedly interrogated by the Special Investigation Team on February 27. His questioning started at around 04:30 pm and lasted till the late evening hours.

It is pertinent to note here that Mantar Singh Brar had also played a key role in inciting the Police cops to open an unprovoked firing on peacefully protesting Sikhs at Kotkapura. Several Sikhs were left injured in this firing.

Sources have revealed that the SIT questioned Brar for his contradictory statements before Justice Ranjit Singh Commission and the SIT.

It may be recalled here that Mantar Singh Brar had told the Justice Ranjit Singh led Investigation Commission that he tried to call CM Parkash Badal on the intervening night of October 13-14, 2015 but couldn’t get in touch with him.

However, the former SDM Faridkot Mr. VK Syal had disclosed before the SIT that Brar told the former CM Parkash Badal that the situation in Kotkapura was sensitive and the count of protesting Sikhs could increase to thousands if “proper action” was not taken to disperse them. Syal had told the SIT that after the call he heard Brar saying that the CM Parkash Sing Badal was passing necessary directions to the DGP Sumedh Saini.
