Gurbani Word Of The Day: julaahaa

ਜੁਲਾਹਾ (julaahaa)

Meaning: noun: Weaver.

kabir jaat-i julaahaa kiaa karai   hirdai basae gupaal.
Kabir! What can the caste ‘weaver’ do to me, when the Divine dwells in my heart. -Bhagat Kabir, Guru Granth Sahib, 1368

Message: A weaver by occupation did not have a significant social status under the caste system. Kabir was just one of many such persons. What did distinguish him from the others, however, was his faith and belief in the Divine. His social status did not give him a complex because of his faith in the Divine. Ordinary people allow themselves to be defined by their social class. “As the Lord dwelt in his heart, he was exalted.”

No matter where on the social ladder one stands, the Divine has given every individual the capacity for attaining spiritual consciousness. The choice and effort has to come from seekers under the guidance of the Guru’s wisdom.

Etymology: From Persian julah (ball of thread).
