Ex-DGP Sumedh Saini Interrogated by SIT on Sacrilege and Police Firing Incidents

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The former DGP Punjab Sumedh Saini was reportedly grilled for about two hours by the Special Investigation Team on February 25 at the 82 battalion office near Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. ADGP Prabodh Kumar, IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh and three other SIT members questioned him about the Kotkapura and Behbal Klan firing incidents from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Unlike earlier, the SIT members refused to share details about the questioning of Sumedh Saini.

However, sources have revealed that the SIT members questioned Ex-DGP Sumedh Saini about his telephone conversations with the former Punjab CM Parkash Badal, former Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and MLA Mantar Singh Brar. The SIT members questioned him why he sent Police cops in thousands to tackle peaceful Sikh protesters in hundreds.

Beside it, the SIT members also questioned Saini about why didn’t the Police arrest sacrilege culprits and why the Police tried to frame two Sikh youths in the Bargari sacrilege case and divert the probe of sacrilege cases towards the Sikhs. “Who prevented the Police from arresting the sacrilege culprits?” the SIT questioned Saini.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Saini has confessed before the SIT that he had sent IG Paramraj Umranangal along with Police cops of five districts to Kotkapura. He also termed the Behbal Klan tragedy as an unfortunate incident before the SIT.
