High Court Issues Notice to Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia; Ordered to Appear Personally on March 25

:dateline:After thoroughly scrutinizing the Justice Ranjit Singhs charges against the Akali leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, the Punjab & Haryana High Court on February 20 issued notice to the duo Akali leaders. It is learnt that the duo leaders have been ordered to personally appear before the Court on March 25.

Sharing the development with media, the legal counsels APS Deol and HS Deol informed that the High Court bench headed by Justice Amit Rawal has issued notice to the duo leaders under Section 10-A of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952.

It is pertinent to note here that the Section 10-A of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 deals with penalties for acts calculated to bring the commission or any of its members into disrepute.

Justice APS Deol further informed that Justice Ranjit Singhs plea for preserving evidence with news channels in form of recordings of press conferences and other issues would also be considered on the next date of hearing.

It may be recalled here that the former High Court Judge Justice Ranjit Singh, who headed the Commission of Inquiry in sacrilege and police firing cases, had lodged a criminal complaint against the SAD president Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia for their utterances against the Commission of Inquiry. He had referred to more than one instance where Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia made statements against the commission and its head, which brought it into disrepute.
