Mortal Remains of Bibi Manjeet Kaur Cremated in Germany; Antim Ardas on Feb 1 at Nankana Sahib and on Feb 5 at Sri Harmandir Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The mortal remains of Hijacker Bhai Gajinder Singh’s wife Bibi Manjeet Kaur, who had passed away in Germany on January 23, were consigned to flames in Germany on January 28. A large number of Panthik leaders associated with the Khalistan movement from US, UK, Canada, France, Swiss beside German attended the funeral of Bibi Manjeet Kaur. Her only daughter Bikramjit Kaur and son-in-law Gurpreet Singh from UK performed all rites.

Dal Khalsa founder Bhai Gajinder Singh couldn’t attend the cremation of his wife Bibi Manjeet Kaur as he can’t travel anywhere due to his name in the India’s 20 most wanted list of separatists and extremists.

Bhai Gajinder Singh was sentenced to life in Pakistan for hijacking the Indian plane in Sep 1981. He left his wife in Punjab, who visited Pakistan twice in 1986 and 1990 to see her husband in jail. He did not return back to Punjab after his release in 1995 from Lahore prison.

His wife, who visited Lahore to see him in 1991 didn’t return back to India, and after staying at Gurdwara Dehra Sahib along with her daughter there, went to America and sought asylum but was refused the same. She was deported back to Pakistan, but later she went to Germany where the authorities granted her stay on medical grounds.

Bibi Manjeet Kaur, 64 years, hails from Mohali whereas Gajinder Singh is a resident of Chandigarh.

Informing the media, party spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh said the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has decided to perform the Antim Ardas at Nanakana Sahib on February 1 and back in Punjab, their party will be holding Akhand Path and performing Antim Ardas at Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar on February 5. He said prominent Panthik groups and personalities and relatives of Bhai Gajinder Singh and his wife will join the prayers.
