SGPC Felicitates Seven Witnesses and Six Lawyers; Sukhbir Badal Seeks FIR Against Rajiv Gandhi

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Seven witnesses and six lawyers, who have been fighting for justice in 1984 Sikh genocide cases for the last 34 years, were felicitated by the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee on January 26 in a special function organized at Teja Singh Samundari Hall. DSGMC member Manjinder Singh Sirsa was also honored on this occasion.

SAD president Sukhbir Badal and SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal honored each witness and lawyer with a “Siropao” (robe of honor), a silver saucer, shawl, sword and a cash amount of Rupees 2 lakhs for showing incomparable courage to fight a legal battle against the perpetrators of the 1984 Sikh genocide.

Interestingly, Advocate HS Phoolka didn’t turn up to receive the reward by SGPC instead he sent his brother to receive it.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, SAD president Sukhbir Badal demanded registration of an FIR against the former Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi and revocation of the Bharat Ratna award conferred to him. “We will start a campaign to force the Indian government to revoke the Bharat Ratna award from Rajiv Gandhi” he said while terming the Congress as an anti-national party.
