:dateline:The pro-freedom Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa has asked all the minorities and struggling nationalities to observe the Indias republic day as day of deceit and assimilation.
The Dal Khalsa is of the considered opinion that under the shadow of Constitution and Tri-color hundreds of dissenting Sikhs, Kashmiris and others have been killed extra-judicially reads a press note shared by Dal Khalsa with Sikh24.
Terming Indian Republic Day as a betrayal day for Sikhs, the leaders of the Dal khalsa said that it had planned to organize public marches at three cities in the state on January 26 to highlight their desire for independent Punjab.
The party activists will march on the streets of Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Zira by holding Khalsa Flags symbolizing Sikh Sovereignty. The announcement was made at a press conference in Ludhiana held by senior party leaders led by president Harpal Singh Cheema.
It is regrettable that the present Constitution denies minorities their right to self-determination as recognized under International Law. It is a constitution, even if amended, can no longer redress our legitimate and genuine aspirations and provide justice to the people who aspire for self-rule reads the press note by Dal Khalsa.
Informing the media about their proposed street shows on January 26 parallel to Republic day celebrations, party president Harpal Singh Cheema and other leaders Jasbir Singh Khandoor and Amrik Singh Issru said 70 years had passed and no government at the Centre had ever tried to address the contentious issues of Sikhs related to their distinct identity and rights.
Explaining as to why their group was calling for boycott of January 26 celebrations, Singh said the distinct identity of Sikhs was being subsumed under Article 25 (b) (2). Hindu laws were being imposed on Sikhs, Punjab’s river waters were being looted by subverting the Constitution under the garb of freedom of expression. The Indian Constitution allowed “gurudom” to mushroom and challenged the fundamentals of Sikhism and there were no equal laws and rules for Sikh detainees beside granting impunity to police officials including those responsible for Behbal Klan firing, he added.
