sabhe velaa vakhat sabh   je athee bhau hoi.
All times and all moments become fruitful, if there is an awareness of the Divine throughout the eight quarters (of the day and night – at all times). -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 146

Message: It is great to contemplate on the Divine before dawn with single-minded devotion. The reasoning is that in the late morning, the faculties of the mind are scattered in many directions. By this time, many of us get drowned in worldly worries and are never able to come out of them. By noon, hunger and thirst start bothering us. Our attention is diverted towards putting something in our mouth. After a while, whatever we had eaten gets digested and we feel the need to eat again. Then, in the night, we feel sleepy and closing our eyes we go into deep slumber. Next day, on waking up, we get busy in the same cycle of events.

Hence, if feasible, we should fight our laziness and rise to remember the Divine early in the morning.  However, we need to be imbued with the love for the Divine and keep the Divine presence enshrined in our hearts at all times. We need to apply the teachings we have obtained for the rest of the day. Only by leading such a lifestyle, will our existence on earth be made fruitful and joyous.

Etymology: Combination of sabhe (all) + velaa (time, period).
