Gurbani Word Of The Day: has

ਹਸੁ (has)

Meaning: verb: Laugh, rejoice.

Quote:

vaṇjaariaa siu vaṇaj kar   lai laahaa  man has.
Trade with the traders (of the merchandise of Naam) and thus earn profit and rejoice, O mind! –Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 595

Message: Material wealth and possessions are somewhat necessities of life but they alone are not sufficient to provide us with inner happiness and delight. Unfortunately, bewitched with their allure and attraction, rarely do we understand this.

The quote above tells us the way to true joy: Make friends with those who are aware of the realities of this transient life and the world. In their association, make divinity your merchandise and higher understanding and contemplation your stock. Store divine qualities and virtues within your heart. This will lead you to true profit and real joy.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਸਜਣਾ   ਐਸਾ ਹਸਣੁ ਸਾਰੁ॥
Surrender your mind and body to the friends (the traders of the merchandise of Naam and rejoice) – for, rejoicing such as this is the most excellent. –Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1410

Etymology: From Sanskrit hasati → Pali hasati → Prakrit hasai (laughs).
