Sri Harmandir Sahib Complex Declared No-Vehicle Zone by SGPC

:dateline:In an attempt to control pollution and decongest the area outside the holiest Sikh shrine Sri Harmandir Sahib, the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has declared the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex as a no vehicle zone. An instruction board has been put on the entry route to Sri Harmandir Sahib asking its staffers not to take their vehicles beyond that point.

The passage leads to three major SGPC offices its head office Teja Singh Samundri Hall, Dharam Parchar Committee office and the Golden Temple office in addition to four rest houses.

Sharing the development with Sikh24, the SGPC chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh informed that the decision will come into effect from December 31 for all including the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal. Planning to install automated barricades is in consideration so that these barricades could be lifted in case of emergency or VVIP movement, he added while claiming the SGPC personnel has started following the instruction with immediate effect.

It is noteworthy here that three devotees, including a seven-year-old child, were injured on December 16 when a Volkswagen car had gone out of control and hit them near the SGPCs headquarter Teja Singh Samundri Hall.
