Sajjan Kumar Approaches Delhi High Court Seeking Extension in Time to Surrender Till January 31

NEW DELHI, India—Sajjan Kumar, the former Congress parliamentarian and a key perpetrator of the 1984 Sikh genocide, today moved a plea before the Delhi High Court seeking extension in the time to surrender. It is learnt that he sought extension in time to surrender till January 31 while excusing that he has to settle matters pertaining to his property as he has three children and eight grandchildren.

However, Sajjan Kumar’s legal counsel Advocate Anil Sharma disclosed the reality behind Sajjan Kumar’s plea while interacting with the media. He told the media that Sajjan Kumar needs more time to challenge the High Court’s verdict in the Supreme Court.

On being contacted by the media, Advocate HS Phoolka confirmed the development. He informed that Sajjan Kumar’s plea will be taken up for hearing by the Court tomorrow. “We will oppose that application tomorrow” he added.

It may be recalled here that Sajjan Kumar was imprisoned for life by the Delhi High Court on December 17 in a case pertaining to brutal killing of five members of a Sikh family in the Raj Nagar of Delhi’s cantonment area on November 1, 1984. The Court had asked him to surrender before the authorities on December 31.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Sajjan Kumar also appeared before a lower court in a separate case of 1984 Sikh genocide in which the court adjourned the hearing onto January 22, 2019.
