Pakistan Installs Immigration Centre at Kartarpur Border

LAHORE, Punjab—Exactly a week after laying the foundation of Kartarpur Sahib corridor, the Pakistan government has established an immigration center at Kartarpur border. It is learnt that the task of checking documents of Sikh pilgrims at the corridor has been assigned to the Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan.

On being contacted by the media, the FIA’s Deputy Director Mufakhar Adeel informed that the FIA will keep a bio-metric record of all the Sikh pilgrims entering into Pakistan. “Sikh pilgrims having visas will be allowed to enter the city while those with permits will be given access to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib only,” he added.

Mufakhar Adeel further said that a strong mechanism was required to keep the situation under control on both sides of the border as the border crossing could be an easy target for terrorists, human traffickers and drug dealers.

The Kartarpur corridor is likely to get operational in or after June-2019 as its Pakistani side is expected to get completed in six months while the Indian side will be completed in four months. The Sikh pilgrims will get visa-free access to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib once the corridor projects on both sides of the Indo-Pak international border completes.
