:dateline:The Khalsa College (Amritsar Sahib) is all set to initiate the digitization of rare photographs, paintings and important documents in its Sikh History Research Centre. Under this initiative, photographs of heroes of the two World Wars, pictures of Gurdwaras in Pakistan clicked in the 19th century, and paintings of Sikh warriors such as Hari Singh Nalwa will be digitized. �
It is noteworthy here that the digitization of rare manuscripts has been already completed by the Khalsa College�s governing council. Beside it, the museum displaying documents of historical importance, weapons, coins and historical artifacts is also being upgraded in its Sikh History Research Centre.
Established in 1930, the Sikh History Research Centre has documents available in different languages such as Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit, besides over 6,000 books, old newspapers and magazines. The Centre was recently shifted to a separate building, which is near completion.
Interacting with media, the Honorary Secretary of Khalsa College Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina informed that the digitization of photographs, paintings and important documents will begin in 2019. He added that the conservation and preservation work is going on currently by a team of experts appointed by the council.�
It is pertinent to note here that the Khalsa College allows everyone to access its treasure trove of Sikh history and culture. Hundreds of students peruse historic documents every year for their research work.
