Gurbani Word Of The Day: hukam

????? (hukam)

Meaning: noun: Command, order or authority; the divine order, will or law that controls the entire universe

Quote:

teraa hukam laalaa ma?ne eh kar?ee saar.
(O Divine!) Your servant should always obey Your command – this is the most excellent action. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1011

Message: In this quote, the emphasis is on accepting and living in harmony with divine order (hukam), and the laws of nature. it is very difficult for humans to understand hukam or cosmic laws, as we believe in Me and Mine and I-ness too much. However, when one lives in accordance with hukam, one is free from egoism or self-centredness and gets close to the Divine. Ones desires are thus quenched and he or she is able to find inner satisfaction and serenity.
