O loving Divine! To abide by what pleases You is true jap, and to be in harmony with Your will is perfect wisdom. -Guru Arjun Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 100

Message: We are asked to recite the Naam of the Divine (Naam jap) or read Gurbani (do our paath). This recitation is not just in name. The idea is that this may help us to connect with the Divine and make us realise the presence of the Creator in all beings, if we put into practice what we recite.

Only when we realise that the Divine pervades equally in all people, would we then shed our prejudice, vengeance and animosity. When we reach that elevated state, we shall consider everyone alike and cherish love for all, without giving any thought to their colour, caste, class, creed, and culture. If we are in harmony with humankind, we will be in harmony with the Creator too. The Creator is in His creation.

If we recite His Naam and intend to meditate upon Him, we are then supposed to appreciate and abide by His will too. The above verse reveals that this is the ultimate wisdom of all times and true jap!

Only spiritual consciousness the realisation of Gods presence in oneself and in every other living being can save the world. -Anonymous

Etymology: From Sanskrit jalp (talk) ? Pali/Prakrit japp (muttering, especially of prayers and incantations) ? Hindi/Gujarati/Punjabi jaap (muttering).
