Captain Asks Sushma to Take Up Kartarpur Corridor Issue with Pak Government

:dateline:The Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh today wrote a letter to the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj asking her to take up the issue of opening corridor to Gurdwara Sri Kartarpur Sahib with the Pakistan government. Captain Amarinder Singh has written in the letter that Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib is one of the most revered religious places for Sikhs as Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent a large part of his life there.

Recalling the earlier requests made by the Punjab government to the Union government of India in this concern, Captain has pointed out that the historic Sikh shrine lies around 4 km westwards from Dera Baba Nanak, District Gurdaspur (Punjab), on the Pakistan side.

Referring to the upcoming 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, being observed in November 2019, the Chief Minister has apprised the External Affairs Minister that the Punjab assembly had passed a unanimous resolution on August 27, 2018, seeking uninterrupted opening of the corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

It may be recalled that Captain Amarinder Singh had earlier also requested Sushma Swaraj, through a D.O. letter on August 20, 2018 to take up the matter with the Pakistan government.
