O Farid! (The human being is like that) Jat who plants thorny acacia trees but wishes for tasty grapes of Bijour. -Sheikh Farid, Guru Granth Sahib, 1379

Message:Grapes of Bijour!
Isn’t this what we humans do in our lives every day? We nurture negativity and unhealthy thoughts, we commit wrongdoings, but we want to enjoy spiritual happiness and peace. How is that possible?

To get the positive and correct outcome in life, we need to put in the right and necessary effort. For example, if we wish to harvest high-quality fine grapes or any fruit for that matter, we must sow the seeds of those fruits. We will reap what we sow.

We can experience happiness and overcome suffering only if we are able to engage in practices which are in tune with the laws of nature and in tune with the divine teachings.

Note: Bijour is a region in the adjoining areas of Swat in Afghanistan.  The Jat is now an English word, referring to people widely scattered throughout the north-west of India and Pakistan and elsewhere.

Etymology: From Sanskrit draakshaa (vine, grape) → Prakrit dakkhaa → Sindhi ḍraakha, Lahndi draakh, daakh, Punjabi and others daakh.
