:dateline:The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee today officially appointed Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib by holding a religious program as per Sikh customs and traditions. Representatives of various Sikh seminaries, organizations, societies etc. took part in this program to support the appointment of Giani Harpreet Singh on the temporal Sikh post.
During the religious proceedings, Hazoori Raagi of Sri Harmandir Sahib Bhai Jagtar Singh sung the Gurbani verses in melodious tones. Bhai Rajdeep Singh performed the �Ardas� and Giani Gurmukh Singh read the sacred �Hukamnama� (order of the Almighty Lord) on this occasion. SGPC Secretary S. Balwinder Singh Jaura Singha acted as a stage secretary during this program.
The resolution regarding appointment of Giani Harpreet Singh as Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib was read by the SGPC�s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh. Sikh devotees endorsed the appointment of Giani Harpreet Singh by echoing Sikh ovation.
Congratulating Giani Harpreet Singh on this occasion, the Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh said that Sri Akal Takht Sahib is a supreme Sikh throne and the sixth Sikh master Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had established it for the protection of Sikh tenets. He expressed hope that Giani Harpreet Singh will work hard for maintaining the supremacy of this sacred Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib. �
Addressing the gathering, the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal tried to justify his decision of selecting Giani Harpreet Singh as Akal Takht Jathedar. He said that Giani Harpreet Singh played a prominent role in preachment of Sikhism and now he will also work for uniting the Sikh community. He expressed hope that Giani Harpreet Singh will intensify the preachment of Sikhism besides sorting out various issues causing rift among Sikhs.
Newly appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that he has been blessed by Guru Sahib. He added that he will try his best to deliver onto his duties as per Sikh customs and traditions. Later, Giani Harpreet Singh paid obeisance at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Head Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Malkit Singh, SGPC appointed Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Patna Sahib Giani Iqbal Singh, Bhai Ram Singh, Giani Jagtar Singh, Damdami Taksal chief Baba harnam Singh Dhumma, Budha Dal�s chief Baba Balbir Singh, Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuri Wale, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK etc. honored the newly appointed Akal Takht Sahib with Dastaars (Turbans) and Sirpaos (robe of honor) on this occasion. ������
Now that it is official, his name can be changed to Giani Badalpreet so worldwide sangat can easily recognise him as Takht Chownkidar
