MEHTA, Punjab—SGPC appointed acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh received a warm-hearted welcome from Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma at the Damdami Taksal headquarters at Chown Mehta. Giani Harpreet Singh was appointed as the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib after Giani Gurbachan Singh resigned from the post due to ailing health and pressure from the Sikh Sangat.
Baba Dhumma assured Giani Harpreet Singh for his support as he welcomed his arrival here. Baba Dhumma asked Giani Harpreet Singh to work sincerely for the Panth and resolve important pending maryada issues that have caused doubts within the minds of younger generations.
Giani Harpreet Singh said that Damdami Taksal has a very important place in traditional and modern Sikh history. He appreciated Baba Dhumma’s continued efforts to preach Gurbani and Sikh history.
“This organization, started by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, has always stood guard against anyone who attacks Sikh history. Numerous shaheeds have been produced by the Damdami Taksal,” he said.
“The 14th President of Damdami Taksal, Amar Shaheed Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Khalsa, will always guide the generation of people through his guidance and Panthik seva,” he added. He said that the purified status of uttering Gurbani from Damdami Taksaal is rarely found by any other organization. He praised the services of Saint Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, the current head of Damdami Taksal, for the Panth.
Although Giani Harpreet Singh has been appointed as acting Jathedar, he has been visiting Sikh organizations, particularly those affiliated with the Akali Dal to decide the future course of action.
