Gurbani Word Of The Day: kuraňk

ਕੁਰੰਕ (kuraňk)

Meaning: noun: Deer.

Quote:

jiu kuraňk nis naad baalhaa   tiu merai man raa-maee-aa.
As the tune of the hunter’s bell at night is dear to the deer, so is the Divine dear to my mind. -Bhagat Namdev, Guru Granth Sahib, 693

Message: The chime of the hunter’s bell at night is very enticing to the deer. The deer is so captivated that it forgets everything else, even its fears about its own safety. Nothing other than the sound or the music matters to it.

Like the deer, love for the Creator should make us forget all our worldly concerns and anxieties. Only then can the love be called really genuine.

Etymology: From Sanskrit kuraṅg (antelope or deer) → Pali kuruaṅg → Prakrit kuraṁg → Punjabi kuraṅg.
