As rain is dear to the earth and the flower’s fragrance is dear to the bumble bee (so is the Divine dear to my mind). -Bhagat Namdev, Guru Granth Sahib, 693

Message: Without water, the earth is barren and unable to support life. So it is natural for it to yearn for water or rains. Its the water that makes it fertile, full of life and lively. The human soul or spirit, too, yearns for the Divine essence which makes it blossom and whole.

Likewise, the bumble bee loves the fragrance of flowers because it leads it to the flowers, dear and vital for their sustenance. If we develop an attraction to the Naam of the Divine it will take us to Him, just like the fragrance guides the bee to the flowers.

Etymology: From Sanskrit bru?gaa (large black bee).
