SGPC Installs New Doors in “Darshani Deodi” of Sri Harmandir Sahib

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—On October 6, new doors of size 9’10″ x 9’2″ made up of black Indian rosewood, 60 Kg silver and sea-shell were installed in the “Darshani Deodi” of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Notably, these new doors have been installed in place of 200 years old doors installed during the regime of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh which were removed in 2010. At that time, temporary doors were installed by the SGPC.

Sikh24 has learnt that the specialized artisans of Agra have performed stucco work manifesting trees, floral designs and birds on the front side and on the backside of these doors. Specialized carpenters of Amritsar completed wooden work of these doors. The front side of these doors is plated with silver while the back side is covered with sea-shell.

The doors were installed following a religious program held in the courtyard of Sri Akal Takht Sahib in which Hazoori Raagis recited Gurbani Kirtan. Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh performed “Ardas” on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal said that the Kaar Sewa seminary led by Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuri Wale and Baba Sukhwinder Singh performed the volunteer service of building these new doors of the sanctum sanctorum’s “Darshani Deodi”. He added that the uninstalled doors will be preserved and kept in a showcase for devotees.

Head Granthi Giani Jagtar Singh highly hailed Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuri Wale by saying that he furnished every project assigned by the SGPC with extreme devotion and dedication. He claimed that the new doors have been built in resemblance to the older ones.

It is pertinent to note here that the SGPC has now two pairs of uninstalled gates i.e. one which was uninstalled in 2010 and the second one which has been uninstalled now.
