:dateline:As per a report published by Indias mainstream media outlet The Indian Express, the SGPC has passed a resolution to demolish more than 200 years old main entrance gate of Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran. It is notable here that the SGPC officials and the Kaar Sewa seminary headed by Baba Jagtar Singh had to face protest of Sikh masses on September 14 when they were going to start demolition work.
It has come to fore that the SGPC General Secretary Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala, who was also present on the eve of starting demolition work on September 14, played an instrumental role in getting passed this resolution to demolish and reconstruct the entrance. He has claimed that the resolution for demolishing and reconstructing this historic entrance gate was passed on the demand of Sikh masses.
On being asked to prove his claim of demand by the Sikh masses, Karmuwala excused that it was an oral demand and the SGPC couldnt get it in written. He added that the main entrance gate is in bad condition as it has developed cracks.
On being contacted by media, the SGPC president S. Gobind Singh Longowal accepted that the resolution was passed in the meeting convened by him, but he excused that he was not informed about the historic aspect of this entrance gate. We will reconsider this resolution if needed he added.
