Attempt to Demolish Two Centuries Old Main Entrance Gate Failed by Sikh Devotees in Tarn Taran

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—An attempt to demolish two centuries old Darshani Deodi (Entrance gate) of Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran under pretext of ‘Kaar Sewa’ was reportedly failed by the Sikh devotees on September 14. Notably, the SGPC has given ‘Kaar Sewa’ for building a new parking lot outside the main gate of Sri Darbar Sahib to the ‘Kaar Sewa’ seminary led by Baba Jagtar Singh.

Baba Jagtar Singh and other SGPC officials had to face a sharp protest by the Sikh devotees when they were about to begin work for demolishing the two centuries old entrance gate built during the kingdom of Kanwar Naunihal Singh.

It is learnt that the SGPC and Kaar Sewa authorities find it better to stop the demolition ‘Darhsani Deodi’ for the time being.

On being contacted by media, the SGPC’s chief secretary Dr. Roop Singh confirmed that the ‘Kaar Sewa’ has been postponed due to objections by the Sikh masses.

Due to the unavailability of a parking lot at the main entrance gate of Sri Darbar Sahib (Tarn Taran), the devotees face problem in parking their two wheelers. To build a new multi-storey parking lot, the SGPC has demolished the left side building at main entrance of Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran.
