SAD Committed Big Mistake by Facilitating Pardon to Gurmeet Ram Rahim, says Brahmpura

CHANDIGARH—Interacting with media today, the octogenarian stalwart Akali leader S. Ranjit Singh Brahmpura admitted that exonerating Gurmeet Ram Rahim was a big mistake of Shiromani Akali Dal which ultimately proved fatal for the party. He said that the situation could be dealt in a better way if the SAD leaders (Badals) would have consulted the senior leadership at that time.

Brahmpura further said that the martyrdom of two innocent Sikh youths at Behbal Klan created adverse circumstances for the Shiromani Akali Dal as the ruling parties are always accused for such blunders irrespective of the fact that whether they are guilty or innocent. “But the Congress used these circumstances to corner SAD at political ground” he added.

On being questioned about SAD’s direct or indirect role in exonerating the Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Brahmpura said that the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh should reveal the truth about it.

Suggesting the party’s leadership to collectively apologize at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Brahmpura said that the SAD leaders shouldn’t hesitate in apologizing at Sri Akal Takht Sahib as the Congress leaders have also said it several times that they won’t have any objection to bow before Sri Akal Takht Sahib if summoned.

Brahmpura also said that the SAD had to come across such situations several times before, but this time the Sikh sentiments have been hurt. He expressed hope that his party would emerge from this situation also.
