One, whose mind has become the dust (the humblest) of all, has recognised the Divine and the Divine Naam in every being. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 266

Message: Being humble by losing your pride is not an easy task in this modern age where we are easily judged by others. However, those who strive for it have a greater inner strength and resolve to overcome their ego in the face of the onslaughts of others.

Society may see the meek and humble as weak but these people, by being unafraid to lose face, pride, ego, etc. in front of others, in reality, see the Divine in all and do not harbour any ill-will either. Their focus is on keeping true to the Gurus words and not on how others see or perceive them.

The life of every man is a diary in which he means to write one story, and writes another, and his humblest hour is when he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make it. -J.M. Barrie, a Scottishnovelist and playwright, 1860-1937

Etymology: From cheenhi (to recognise, to know) from Sanskrit chihnayati (stamps, marks) ? Old Kashmiri cheenun (to recognise), Bengali chinaa, Old Awadhi cheenhai and Hindi cheenhnaa (to make acquainted).
