Reflecting on the Naam of the Divine, worship is performed within the heart. Contemplating on the Word of the Guru, (it is realised that) there is none other (worthy of worship than the Divine). -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1345

Message: Isn’t it amazing that how differently people perform puja or worship services in different faiths or traditions? Some are loud and expressive, while others quiet and solemn. Some chant mantras, others sing hymns. Some kneel, others stand. Some dance, others sit. Some do it every day, some every week, and others once a month, or even less often. Similarly, some worship in temples, while others at homes.

Is there a right or wrong way to worship? What makes worship right or wrong is not our tune, our posture or gestures of our body. True worship is done in true spirit from ones inner being. It is not just the act of going through the motions.

Reflection on Gurbani reveals that there is none worthy of worship other than the all-pervading Divine. Hence, the verse above states, if you are mindful of the presence of the Divine in yourself and everyone around you, and comply with the Gurus guidance – this is the true worship of the Creator within your heart.

If you acknowledge and appreciate the Divine presence in all beings, you will lead your life truthfully considering the Divine pervading in all places. You will be in harmony with nature and with people around you. You will experience inner peace.
