:dateline:Addressing a gathering at Amritsar Sahib on August 5, renowned Sikh economist and writer Dr. Sardara Singh Johal said that the Akalis have ruined the institution of the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib by treating the Akal Takht Jathedar and the Punj Piyares just as employees. He was in Amritsar Sahib to attend the releasing ceremony of a book named Akal Takht: Revisiting Miri in Political Imagination written by an American Sikh scholar Amandeep Singh.

Dr. Sardara Singh Johal suggested the Sikh community to adopt a procedure of selecting Akal Takht Jathedar on the lines of Roman Catholic Church. Notably, the pope in Roman Catholic Church is selected by a collegium.
Acquainting the program attendees with the book content, author Amandeep Singh said that the original art forms of the Sikh community are also suffering beside the politics. While appealing the intellectuals and academicians to get engaged in discussions under the patronization of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he said that Akal Takht too should play a role to promote art and education.
SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Emeritus Professor Dr. Harjit Singh etc. also addressed the gathering on this occasion.
