Having the blessed darshan of the Guru, the mind is comforted and all wrongdoings banished. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 51

Message: Paying obeisance to Guru Granth Sahib, respectfully, enjoying the presence of the congregation (an embodiment of the Guru’s person) and attending to recitation or singing of hymns or discourses (paath, kirtan or katha, respectively): these together constitute the darshan of the Guru, in Sikh tradition.

When we do this, we have a better opportunity to listen and understand the teachings of the Guru. However, our work should not end at a place of congregation. We need to move closer in love and devotion to the wisdom of the Guru. Absorbing and following the Guru’s wisdom will enable us to stay away from negativity and subdue our disrupting emotions. We will be grounded and live in accordance with the teachings contained in Guru Granth Sahib

Etymology: From Sanskrit darshan (seeing, sight, view).
