May my blanket get soaked and drenched! May it keep raining by Allahs will! I shall go out and meet my loving friends (so that) my love does not end. -Sheikh Farid, Guru Granth Sahib, 1379
Message: Will you go and meet your friends when it is raining and muddy, or would you remain at home? Sometimes, we have to decide what we value more.
Farid decides to meet his beloved friends even though it is raining and his clothes will get wet. He will not allow anything to come in the way of his deep love for the company of good and virtuous people (sadh sangat).
The message here is that our love for the Divine and the Divine-oriented people needs to be intense, unconditional and focussed. Only with such a yearning and dedication, can we transcend to a higher level of consciousness and achieve inner peace. We can either make excuses or try to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of aligning ourselves with those who are virtuous and spiritualthat is, striving for the right path.
