A grasshopper loves the milkweed plant. Perched on its branch, it eats it joyously. One who remembers the Divine (or is content by His will) is pleasing to the Master and is good. -Guru Nanak Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 1286
Message: In contrast to a powerful and fierce tiger (in yesterdays quote), a grasshopper is a tiny and slender plant-eating insect. So is its intake of food, very little and trivial. It eats Akk, the milkweed. Perching on its branches, it looks beautiful while it produces a buzzing sound.
Similarly, one who leads a simple and natural life and is content with what one has is pleasing to the Creator and everyone around him or her. Such a happy and humble life is better than the life of a haughty, fierce, or forceful person.
Etymology: From Sanskrit ark (the Calotropis gigantea, the swallow-wort plant) ? Pali akk ? Prakrit akk ? Sindhi aku(Calotropis procera), Lahndi akk/ak and Punjabi akk (a plant with an acrid milky juice).
