The living beings that (the Creator) created in rocks and stones have their nourishment placed there before them. -Guru Arjan Sahib, Guru Granth Sahib, 10

Message: We may pray or worship the Divine, yet there are times when we are caught in a situation where we are consumed by worry. There is fear and anxiety in us that we will not be able to provide for ourselves or our loved ones, or that something untoward may happen. But why worry when the Creator is Himself engaged in providing and caring for us?

In this quote, we are reminded that the Divine is taking care of us as He is doing the same for the rest of His creation. He looks into the needs of even the creatures in rocks and stones and would hence also look after our needs as well. By devoting ourselves to Him and being open to receiving His grace, we allow ourselves to be taken care of.

We need to be mindful that when we pray, we should have full faith in the Gurus words, and not allow our mind to wander uncontrollably and deviate from the message that the Guru is sharing.

Note: The synonymous terms sail and pathar seem to be used nearby for a better poetic sense of sound and rhythm and to give a sense of mountains or hills, contacting rocks and stones, etc.

Etymology: Combination of sail from Sanskrit shail (made of stony, rocky; rock, hill) ? Pali sail (rocky; rock, crystal)? Prakrit sail (collection of stones)? Punjabi/ Gujarati sail (soapstone – a stone slab for washing on) and Sinhalese sail (rock, mountain) + pathar from Sanskritprastar(anything strewn, grass to sit on; flat surface, rock, stone) ? Pali/ Prakrit patthar ? Sindhi patharu, Lahndi/Punjabi pathar/patthar (stone).
