Langar on Chairs: Giani Gurbachan Singh Slams Sydney’s Austral Gurdwara Committee

AMRITSAR SAHIB—Taking strong notice of Sydney based Austral Gurdwara Committee’s move of displaying a notice directing Sikh devotees to partake ‘langar’ only on table and chairs, the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has instructed the concerned Gurdwara committee to remove notice immediately. Giani Gurbachan Singh has termed this move as a grand violation of Sikh tenets.

Recalling an earlier direction by Sri Akal Takht Sahib in this concern, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that it is mandatory for everyone to partake ‘langar’ by sitting on the floor. “In case of handicapped devotees, the Gurdwara committee needs make appropriate arrangement” he added.

It is pertinent to note here that a Sydney based Austral Gurdwara committee has asked the devotees there to partake ‘langar’ on chairs by terming the partake of ‘langar’ on the floor as an unhygienic.
