Captain asks Indian Government to Withdraw Petition Challenging Compensation for Jodhpur Detainees

:dateline:Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh has asked the Union government of India to withdraw its petition from Punjab & Haryana High Court challenging the Amritsar Courts verdict to compensate Jodhpur detainees. He has appealed the Union government to release funds for compensating each innocent Jodhpur detainee with amount directed by the District and Sessions Court of Amritsar.

Apprising the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about an outrage among Sikh masses regarding the Union governments challenge to Amritsar Courts verdict, Captain has urged him to immediately release Centres share amounting Rupees 45 million to compensate Jodhpur detainees.

It may be recalled here that in April last year the District and Sessions Court of Amritsar had directed the Centre government of India as well as the State government of Punjab to provide compensation worth Rupees 4,00,000/- (plus interest as per Banking rate) to Jodhpur detainees.
