SAD (Amritsar) to mark June 21 as an International Gatka Diwas

AMRITSAR SAHIB—The pro-freedom Sikh outfit Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) is all set to mark June 21 as an International Gatka Diwas across the world. An appeal in this concern has been issued to the worldwide Sikh masses to mark June 21 as an International Gatka Diwas to counter the call given by saffron Indian government to mark June 21 as an International Yoga Day.

General Secretary of SAD (Amritsar) S. Amrik Singh Ballowal told Sikh24 that the tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh Ji had blessed Sikhs with martial art in the form of ‘Gatka’ which is a symbol of our dignity.  He appealed the worldwide Sikh masses to fail the Indian government’s policy to impose Hinduism on minorities in an attempt to crush their dignity.

“Gatka is a complete martial system which uses spiritual, mental and physical skills in equal portions to help one fully competent in defending themselves and others. In addition to giving the student defensive skills, it also helps the individual with other aspects of their life: makes the mind alert and responsive, maintains the body in a near perfect condition and makes soul fearless, compassionate and tranquil,” he said.
