To get people of the world across (the ocean of life successfully), Guru Ram Das has infused the light (divine wisdom) of the Guru into Guru Arjun. -Bhatt Mathura, Guru Granth Sahib, 1409

Message: Growing up in the vicinity of Guru’s durbar, the child Arjun devoted himself to the Guru’s way whole-heartedly. He didn’t forsake the Guru’s teachings from his mind even for an instant. With the benefit derived from this adoring devotion, he attained traits of showing mercy to the meek and uplifting humankind through his presence and discourses.

Guru Ram Das recognised that Arjun was the most suitable for Guruship and appointed him to be the fifth successor to the divine throne of Guru Nanak. The marvelous method of connecting seekers to spirituality (through dual blessings of the Guru’s congregation and teachings) was now bestowed upon him.

We are fortunate that we have an opportunity to tap into these blessings of the Guru and enrich our earthly lives spiritually. We just need to have faith and take a step forward.

Etymology: From Sanskrit jyotis (light, moonlight, star) → Pali joti (light, star, fire) → Gurbani joti (light, divine light, divine wisdom).
