:dateline:Grew up in the oldest city of Pakistan, Peshawar resident 24 years old Manmeet Kaur has emerged as a first Sikh female anchor of a national Pakistani channel Hum TV. Despite conservative environment for the women in his residential valley, she glistered herself in a profession where continuous mass interaction is mandatory to survive.
Manmeet Kaur, who joined the Hum TV as an anchor on March 7 this year, was interviewed by Sikh24 to bring forward the struggle she had to do to establish herself as a Journalist in the Islamic State of Pakistan.
A brief sum up of her conversation with Sikh24 is being presented here for our audience. �
Question: Tell about your family?
Answer: I hail from a noble family with two elder sisters and two younger brothers. My family was not well to do as my father lost his business and our financial condition worsened during my childhood. �
Question: Where did you study in Peshawar?
Answer: I completed graduation in Social Studies from Jinnah College for Women in Peshawar. Later, I joined a journalism program at the University of Peshawar to complete my master�s degree.
Question: What was your family�s reaction when they first come across you wish to become a Journalist?
Answer: All of them were firstly shocked at my choice because I was going to break all the societal restrictions to become a voice of my community. My family and my relatives continuously tried to convince for stepping back by saying that I was going in a wrong direction.
Question: Why did you only choose to join the profession of Journalism?
Answer: I have adopted the profession of Journalism as a mission to highlight the problems of minorities residing in Pakistan. I am also willing to bring forth the problems being faced by youngsters and females in this society.
My passion to serve society by becoming a Journalist was firstly understood by my maternal uncle S. Radesh Singh Tony. He was also the one who broke up the deadlock between me and my family about joining Journalism profession by openly coming in my support.
Question: How do you feel now after having achieved your destination?
Answer: I have received unprecedented affection and appreciation from my community. I am being given so much special treatment and immense respect that it is difficult for me to explain it. ��
Question: Did you ever experience discrimination due to religion in Pakistan?
Answer: No, I didn�t in my whole life. Every society is built up of good and bad elements so it�s up to you to fix the type of persons who will surround you. Till date, I didn�t ever experience any kind of discrimination due to my faith in Pakistan.
