:dateline:The Six member Oversight Committee, setup by the Congress led Punjab government on May 7 to review the secondary class history syllabus imposed by PSEB, has clarified that the facts of Sikh history have been highly distorted in the newly published books.
We are shocked at the level of knowledge and commitment of the persons who contributed to the Class-12 book, said a committee member.
The committee led by historian Prof. Kirpal Singh has sought a copy of the NCERT guidelines which the board claims to have followed while compiling the book. The committee will meet again on June 8 to suggest ways to write the book afresh.
I think those who have supplied the contents have not done justice to any portion of the book, said one of the committee members. Facts of Sikh history have been distorted, he said, adding that the committee wanted to know how such a book got printed.
The committee also comprises of former vice chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University Prof J S Grewal, former pro-vice chancellor GNDU Prof Prithipal Singh Kapur, Emeritus Professor of History Punjab University Prof Indu Banga, Sikh intellectual Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani and Sikh historian Dr. Balwant Singh Dhillon.
How many of these intellectuals are followers of RSS. Unless one has persons like G.S.Dhillon, Gurtej Singh, H.S. Dilgeer in the committee the history will still be distorted.
