300th Birthday Celebrations: Khalsa Sports event organized in Delhi

NEW DELHI—A Khalsa Sports show was today organized by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee at Jal Vihar of Delhi in commemoration of 300th birth anniversary of Sikh general Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. Nihang Singhs belonging to various factions manifested their skills in Horse riding and Gatka.

 

SAD president Sukhbir Badal, Parliamentarian S. Balwinder Singh Bhoondarh, DSGMC president S. Manjit Singh GK, DSGMC’s General Secretary S. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Budha Dal’s chief Baba Balbir Singh expressed their views to the present attendees on this occasion.

Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia (1 May 1718 – 1783) was a prominent Sikh leader during the period of the Sikh Confederacy. He was also chief of the Ahluwalia confederacy. This period was an interlude, lasting roughly from the time of the martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in 1716 to the founding of the Sikh Empire in 1801. He founded the Kapurthala State in 1772.

Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was elected as the supreme military commander of the Dal Khalsa on March 29, 1748.
