PATIALA, Punjab—Dead body of political Sikh prisoners Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu was today handed over to his family by the jail authorities. Hundreds of Sikh activists were present outside Rajindra Hospital mortuary when the dead body was given to his family members.
Sources have informed that Bhai Mintu’s mother Gurdev Kaur and his brother along with several prominent Sikh leaders were allowed to enter into mortuary before they took possession of the body amidst high security.
The scene turned totally emotional when Bhai Mintu’s dead body was placed in the ambulance beautified with flowers and the Sikh activists started showering flower petals on Bhai Mintu’s mortal remains. Activists and family members remained in high spirits despite the scene being emotional; echoes of Bole So Nihal were heard outside the hospital.
On being contacted by Sikh24, Sikh activist Bhai Papalpreet Singh informed that the funeral pyre of Bhai Mintu will be consigned to flames at 11 am on April 20 in his native Dalli (near Bhogpur, Jalandhar). He added that the Sikh community has lost a precious diamond who relentlessly fought for the establishment of a sovereign Sikh state during his whole life.
Damdami Taksal’s Ajnala sect chief Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, Dal Khalsa president Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, SAD (Amritsar) General Secretary Prof. Mohinderpal Singh, Sikh activist Bhai Bagicha Singh Waraich and other prominent activists were also present on this occasion.
It may be recalled here that Bhai Harminder Singh Mintu had died of heart attack on April 18 at central jail of Patiala. The jail authorities had tried to rush him to Rajindra Hospital but he was declared dead there.
