Row over ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’: Dr. Roop Singh apologize for endorsing movie 

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Conjecturing adverse circumstances among Sikh masses about controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, the SGPC’s Chief Secretary Dr. Roop Singh has apologized for endorsing screening of the movie by issuing a letter on March 19. Notably, Dr. Roop Singh had issued a letter on March 19 directing the SGPC run Gurdwara authorities to display posters of movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.

Tendering apology to Sikhs through social media, Dr. Roop Singh has clarified that he had issued that letter only on the basis of an earlier letter issued by his predecessor but later this letter was also withdrawn March 29.

To substantiate his claim, he also posted the letter dated May 13, 2016, which reads, “It is in continuation to the letter number 31424 and now after the film is seen by the appointed committee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee, we have no objection in granting you (Harinder Sikka) the permission for the release of the film Nanak Shah Fakir”.
