:dateline:After obtaining clearance from the apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee, the producers of movie Nanak Shah Fakir are all set to release it on April 13. Notably, this movie was earlier set to be released in 2015 but was delayed amid sharp protests by the Sikh masses as it was termed controversial for depicting Guru Nanak Dev ji in human form.
Release of Nanak Shah Fakir is once again likely to draw ire of Sikh world as a majority of Sikh community doesnt believe in illustrating the Sikh masters in any form.
Meanwhile, the SGPC has favored the release of movie Nanak Shah Fakir. It has said that the controversial dialogues which were against Sikh tenets have been removed from the movie after editing.
Speaking to Sikh24, an SGPC official said that the former SGPCs Chief Secretary Harcharan Singh had given clearance for the release of movie in 2016. He added that construction of animated movies about the great lives of our Sikh masters is the need of hour and the SGPC had earlier also permitted the movie producers to use approved portraits of great Sikh masters. The Sikh world should refrain from making any comment about the movie without watching it. The SGPCs sub-committee has permitted the release of this movie only after thoroughly discussing upon the script of movie, he added.
On being contacted by Sikh24, Sikh activist Bhai Papalpreet Singh said that the Sikh community has been a follower of anecdote tradition while the pageantry is not our tradition at all. He added that the SGPC has committed a serious mistake by permitting the release of movie Nanak Shah Fakir. Appealing the SGPC to rollback its decision, Bhai Papalpreet Singh has said that the Sikhs wont let the movie Nanak Shah Fakir hit screens at all. We are working to begin a campaign against the release of this movie, he added.
SGPC is the biggest enemy of Sikhs. There is absolutely no need for films like this where our Guru’s are shown in human form. These don’t do anything for our religion. If they want to show Sikhs in their true form it can be started with the movies or tv shows in which most of the time Sikhs are shown in negative light (butt of jokes). One hardly see a movie in which a Sikh is shown as one is supposed to look.
None Sikh’s and some Sikh’s whom have born aboard don’t know the history of our Guru’s and sacrifice’s they have made. I understand your point, but we must not loose our history as We all have waheguru inside us.
The film made must be true to the fact.
Make more films like this so Sikhs and none Sikhs have a better understanding about Sikh religion and do not mistake us for Muslims as they have done since 9/11.
Christians have made films about Jesus so why can’t Sikh’s make films about OUR GURU’S.
